what do you think about useing a rubberband as a visual connection between the moving plane icon and the tracked waypoint. The information about Distance/Name/Radial could be displayed on the connection line like you intend to do in the leg statistics preview.

I would worry about it obscuring stuff between your present position and the waypoint you're interested in. Stuff that you're quite likely to want to be able to see, presumably.
